Lela Jackson, a member of the Scarlata group for 5 years defended her PhD dissertation today. Congrats Dr. Jackson, we are so proud of you! On June 9, Dr. Jackson defended her thesis discussing the role of stress granules and their impact on neuronal function. Up next, Lela will start her new job as a field application scientist at Agilent. We will miss you Lela!

Starting this summer, Elizabeth McGlaughin joined the Scarlata group as an REU student all the way from Virginia.  She will be looking into some exciting new research fields including work with circadian rhythm, something found in all living things. Welcome Liz!

This summer, we have the pleasure to welcome our Summer REU Student, Elizabeth McGlaughlin. Liz will be working on an exciting project involving the circadian rhythm (a 24-hour bodily clock that operates in all living things!). After 10-weeks Liz will present all of her research and data she collected over the summer.  Welcome Liz!!

Androniqi Qifti, a member of the Scarlata group for 6 years and a student of Worcester Polytechnic Institute for 10 years, defended her PhD dissertation today. Congrats Dr. Androniqi, we are so proud of you! On May 12, Dr. Qifiti graduated from WPI with her PhD degree in Biochemistry as a first generation student. Up next, Androniqi will start her new exciting job as a field application scientist at Berkeley Lights.

In February, members of the Scarlata lab attended the 66th Annual Biophysical Society Annual Meeting in San Francisco California. Two graudate student, Androniqi and Lela presented posters on their current research while Dr. Scarlata hosted a research talk at the conference. Great stuff you guys!

Dionna DeFazio successfully defended her Masters’ Thesis and graduated with a Masters’ degree. Congratulations Dionna!

Suzanne Scarlata, Richard Whitcomb Professor of Chemistry and Biochemistry, was honored for her leadership in the biophysics community and for developing new analytical techniques for the study of signaling proteins.
